Yoga Experience
Bertha started Iyengar Yoga at the age of 14 and has been a dedicated practitioner for over 40 years. She visited BKS Iyengar Yoga Institute in Pune, India, for the first time in 1981 and continues to visit on a regular basis to study with the Iyengar family. Bertha is a Certified Senior Iyengar Yoga Teacher and is qualified to train teachers in the Iyengar method of yoga.
Bertha has been closely involved with the BKS Iyengar Associations of South Africa and Australia. She was the President of the South African Association prior to emigrating in 1984 and President of the Australian Association for four years from October 2011 until October 2015.
About Bertha
Bertha Shakinovsky grew up in South Africa. After completing her studies for a Degree in Computer Science and Economics and working as a management consultant for many years, she left to live in London.
Bertha taught yoga classes at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of Maida Vale in London for 13 years. During this time, she had two children and developed a keen interest in teaching pre- and post-natal yoga. In 1997, Bertha settled in Sydney where she teaches classes at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of Bondi Junction. For details please refer to www.iyengaryogabj.com.au.
